Crosby Breaks Canadian Olympic Points Record with NHL Era Highlight
Canada’s captain, Sidney Crosby, etched his name as the all-time leading scorer for Olympic teams featuring NHL players by adding a second-period goal against France on Sunday. This milestone came during a dominant performance that saw Crosby tally three points in Canada’s 10-2 victory, bringing his Olympic career total to 16. He entered the day one point behind Jarome Iginla, who previously held the record with 14.
Crosby’s night began with an assist on Devon Toews’ first-period goal, which brought him level with Iginla’s mark. He then surged beyond the former captain with a record-breaking tally on Cale Makar’s power-play strike in the second period, before capping the performance with a goal that extended Canada’s lead to 6-1.
Since the reintroduction of NHL players to the Olympics, competition has taken place in 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2026.
Earlier in the tournament, Crosby contributed two points in Canada’s opening win over Czechia on Thursday and added another goal in the 5-1 defeat of Switzerland on Friday.
Canada’s 2026 men’s squad has already clinched Group A and boasts a plus-17 goal differential, with 20 goals for after Sunday’s 10-2 triumph.
