A massive power outage has struck the Pentagon City area, leaving thousands in the cold! Over 6,900 homes and businesses are currently without electricity, and the situation is only getting more complex.
The outage began around 8:30 a.m. on a chilly Wednesday, affecting areas like Pentagon City, Crystal City, Aurora Highlands, and Arlington Ridge. Dominion Energy's website confirms that a whopping 6,902 of their customers are in the dark.
But here's where it gets controversial... Public safety reports indicate multiple traffic lights are out, causing potential hazards at busy intersections like Army Navy Drive and S. Hayes Street. There have also been reports of crashes and people trapped in elevators, including at the Pentagon City mall's Macy's.
And this is the part most people miss: Gunston Middle School and Oakridge Elementary initially lost power too, but it's since been restored. Arlington Public Schools spokesman Frank Bellavia assures us, "We are checking systems to ensure everything is back up."
As of 9:30 a.m., Dominion Energy estimates power will be restored between 12-4 p.m., but the cause of the outage is still under investigation.
So, what do you think? Is this just a simple power outage, or could there be more to the story? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
