Billy's journey began at just three years old, with a balance bike as his constant companion. "It even came to weddings," his father, Matthew Pugh, recalls with a smile. Matthew, a fellow bike enthusiast, knew his son had a special talent when, at the age of ten, Billy beat him in a downhill race.
From there, Billy's talent flourished, and he began competing in races worldwide. However, the path to success is rarely straightforward. Billy's three-year apprenticeship, which he started a year and a half ago, presented a unique challenge: how to balance his racing ambitions with full-time work.
"It's tough," Matthew admits. "There's a lot of sacrifice involved in racing at that level while maintaining a full-time job."
